THE GREATEST PAINTING IN THE WORLD: 10 LUMINARIES CAST THEIR BALLOTS

"The greatest picture in the world…you smile," wrote Aldous Huxley in 1925. Although the claim sounded ludicrous to him, he went on to make a passionate and cogent argument for his choice: Piero della Francesca's Resurrection. ARTnews wondered which paintings would be chosen by artists, museum directors, curators, and art historians today as the "greatest." To find out, we queried a number of them.

For the first few days of December, a good percentage of the international art world will be in Miami for its annual week of art fairs, wheeling and dealing, partying and networking—reveling in the apparently never-ending art-market boom. Art Basel Miami Beach is the main draw, but there are also numerous other satellite fairs aiming to draw crowds, each with its own focus. Below, a succinct guide to the action. JOHN GIORNO JOINS ELIZABETH DEE GALLERY

New York's Elizabeth Dee gallery announced today that it will represent the poet and artist John Giorno. His first solo show with the gallery will be in April 2015. The release leads with this formidable sentence: "John Giorno is recognized as one of the most influential artists of his generation." True! At 77 (78 next month), he's a living legend, having collaborated with a good percentage of the superstars of downtown New York over the past half century

LAWRENCE WEINER NAMED WINNER OF THE $156,000 ROSWITHA HAFTMANN PRIZE

It was announced today that American artist Lawrence Weiner has been awarded the Roswitha Haftmann prize, Europe's best-endowed art prize, worth CHF150,000 ($156,076).
